Verita Neuro Partners with UNBROKEN to Bring Epidural Stimulation to Ukraine
Paralyzed Ukrainian soldiers may soon have the chance to regain movement - thanks to Verita Neuro's innovative treatment using a pioneering microchip that has already changed the lives of hundreds of people worldwide.

LVIV, Ukraine - Verita Neuro, a global provider of advanced neurological treatments, has signed a landmark agreement with Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center in Lviv, Ukraine, to bring its pioneering Epidural Stimulation treatment to the war-torn country.
The partnership, which is supported by the Mayor of Lviv and Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, will see Verita Neuro and Unbroken launch a pilot program beginning in October 2026, with the aim of treating 40 patients in its first year.
Treatment for military patients will be fully funded by external donors and has the potential to help thousands of Ukrainian soldiers who have suffered spinal cord injuries from drone and missile blasts on the front lines.
Epidural Stimulation works by implanting a tiny neurostimulator - a microchip-like device - near the spinal cord, where it reawakens nerves below the injury, helping patients regain movement and function that had previously been lost.
Clinical research from Verita Neuro has shown patients experienced an average 78% improvement in limb motor function over 12 months, alongside improvements in bladder control and other key functions - recovery that can otherwise take years, if it comes at all.
The war continues, and the number of patients is rising.
We want every Ukrainian living with a spinal cord injury to have access to high-quality rehabilitation at home, without having to travel abroad, so that people can regain the highest possible level of independence and quality of life. Having made real progress with our prosthetics program, the next step is modern rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries.
said Oleh Samchuk, General Director of the First Lviv Territorial Medical Union.
Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center - part of the First Lviv Medical Union, one of Ukraine’s largest medical institutions - was founded in 2022 in response to the war.
The center has since treated thousands of wounded soldiers, many brought in from the front lines each week in such large numbers that Unbroken has built an advanced prosthetic limb manufacturing facility on site. Civilians, including children, have also received care at the center.
Julian Andriesz, CEO of Verita Healthcare & Verita Neuro, said:
Ukraine has an urgent and growing need for advanced spinal cord injury care, and in Unbroken we have found one of the most capable and fast-moving rehabilitation institutions anywhere in the world.
Together we have a real opportunity to give soldiers and civilians a path back to movement and independence, and we are committed to making that happen as quickly as possible.
The treatment has already changed the life of one Ukrainian patient.
Igor Sharanda, who has a T5–T6 complete spinal cord injury and was left paralyzed not by the war but by a road accident, traveled abroad to Verita Neuro’s clinic in Bangkok for Epidural Stimulation treatment. Within weeks, he began to regain movement and function that had previously been lost:
I knew it wasn’t magic, and that I would likely still need hours of physiotherapy every day. But within weeks I could feel things I hadn’t felt since my injury - small movements most people never think about.
For me it has been life-changing. To know this treatment is now coming to Ukraine means everything, because so many people here are waiting for a reason to hope.

Oleh Samchuk added:
This pilot is intended as the first step in transforming spinal cord injury rehabilitation in Ukraine. Having made real progress with our prosthetics program, the next step is modern rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries so that people can regain the highest possible level of independence and quality of life.
We are grateful to the Mayor’s office, the Ministry of Health and the entire Unbroken team for trusting us to build this with them.
The pilot also forms part of a broader vision for Ukraine’s recovery. As Lviv looks to rebuild following the war, city leaders are working toward a more accessible future, where advanced rehabilitation technologies - including robotic exoskeletons - will help people with spinal cord injuries regain their independence and play an active role in rebuilding their communities.
